Crane cable is a specialized type of flexible power and control cable designed for use on various overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and hoisting equipment. Unlike standard fixed cables, crane cables must withstand constant bending, twisting, and stretching as the crane moves along its rails or beams. Typically featuring a tough, abrasion-resistant outer sheath—often made of polyurethane (PUR) or neoprene (PCP)—these cables offer excellent resistance to oil, ozone, UV radiation, and extreme temperatures. Many crane cables incorporate high-strength tensile elements (such as aramid yarns or steel wire center supports) to bear the cable’s own weight and mechanical stress during frequent reeling and unreeling operations. Their primary function is to reliably deliver power to the crane’s motors and transmit control signals or data for precise positioning and load handling.
